CONGRATULATORMESSAGE

For UN Vesak Day 2019

I am deeply honored to extend my Congratulatory Message on the auspicious occasion to celebrate the 16th United Nations Day of Vesak to be hosted by the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at the Tam Chuc International Convention Center in Ha Nam Province, Vietnam, from 12th-14th May 2019. I congratulate the organizers for celebrating this historic and eventful day which is related to Lord Buddha and makes us aware and mindful of his purposeful Life, Teachings and Contribution to the entire human civilization.

At this moment I am reminded of the first sermon of Lord Buddha delivered at Saranath known as ‘Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta. This discourse is the essence of his teachings or the ‘Dhamma. Turning the Wheel of Dhamma, in this discourse the Buddha set out the Four Noble Truths and the Eight-fold Path, popularly known as the ‘Middle Pathwhich can be summed up as Sīla, Samādhi and Paňňā.

As the Middle Path induced, insight and mental calm and ultimately lead to Nibbana, the final emancipation, a state of true happiness and harmony at the time of the Buddha, so also even now the Middle Path when practiced leads to Peace, Happiness and Harmony. This fact is self-proven and experienced by many of us.

The main theme for the UNDV 2019 Celebrations and Academic Conference is “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies.Buddhism provides the answer for such issues and prescribes the practice of the Dhamma. According to the Buddha, Dhamma is the only panacea and the Practice of Dhamma is the Right approach to the Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies.
I am happy that the organizers of the Vesak Dayhave been able
