For UN Vesak Day 2019

The celebration of Vesākha Pūjā, also known as “Buddha Day, is considered to be one of the most sacred events for Buddhists around the world, as it is a commemoration of the day when the Buddha was born, enlightened and passed away.

Vesak is a time for all Buddhists to reflect on the fundamental values of compassion, tolerance, loving-kindness, and service to society that are embodied in the Buddhas teaching, the aim of which is to free all the living beings from suffering. Millions were enlightened before the Buddha, many in the Buddhas time and there will be  enlightened  beings  in  the  future.  The  celebration of Vesākha Pūjā is not only the commemoration of the Buddhas birth, enlightenment, and passing away, this is the message to all of mankind to wake up, calling to all who are able to hear, understand and follow this highest doctrine of enlightenment.

Estonian Theravada Sangha is a very young organization. We are honored to have the considerably big role of bringing and distributing the Buddhasāsana to Estonia. Although we do not yet have a single temple, we have faith. Although we do not have a big Sangha, we have morality. Although we do not have an Estonian- language translation of the Tipiaka, we have the Dhamma in our hearts. In this way we can be small, and at the same time, carry a big message.

I hope with all my heart that the Buddhas teachings will lead countless followers of the Dhamma to enlightenment and the cessation of all dukkha in Vietnam, Estonia, and around the world.

May all living beings be happy, healthy and free from dukkha!
