For UN Vesak Day 2019

I deeply appreciate the invitation, which allows me to be part, once again, of an event of such magnitude that seeks to contribute to humanity with its wisdom and compassion.

It is a privilege to be able to attend the Conference, from a land as new and remote as Argentina; and to visit again a country with such a long experience and development of Buddhism, and with such a rich history of resistance to oppressions. I am honored to be able to visit Vietnam again.

I congratulate and thank the hosts, the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (NVBS) for their huge organizational efforts.

Every celebration of the United Nations Vesak Day that I was able to attend has been an invaluable source of inspiration, growth and learning. Its repercussions have expanded in multiple ways for the benefit of the Dharma and of all beings.

I wish the reflections and exchanges regarding “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies, follow that same path, and I have no doubt that it will be so. I am convinced that our overwhelmed world needs much of the clarity and compassion that we could build and radiate together.

May all beings are free from suffering. May all beings are happy and at peace.
Bowing with palms together,
